two months

{ July 2012 }

This month’s scripture verse and prayer for our Uga-babe(s) is Psalm 139:13-16. I love how the Contemporary English Version reads:

You are the one who put me together inside my mother’s body, and I praise you for the wonderful way you created me. Everything you do is marvelous! Of this I have no doubt.┬áNothing about me is hidden from you! I was secretly woven deep in the earth below, but with your own eyes you saw my body being formed. Even before I was born, you had written in your book everything I would do.

I LOVE that the book we have given them this month correlates so perfectly with our Bible verse…

This book was the very FIRST (and only) book we ever purchased for our future children long before embarking on our adoption journey. We ordered it off of back in 2008! :) Over four years ago, God was planting the seed of adoption in my heart. Back then, it was just the beginning of His stirring… but I didn’t know what the future held (we were getting ready to head off to the mission field), or what His calling would be for our future family. Even so, I knew without a doubt I wanted to have a children’s library with books that were multi-cultural, with characters of different colors and ethnicities. Because whether we were called to grow a home-grown American family or a heart-grown international family, I wanted our children to be culturally-aware at a very young age.

I really like the last page in the book: “We’re the same. We’re different. That’s what makes the world such fun. Many kinds of people, not just one! A rainbow would be boring if it were only green or blue. What makes a rainbow beautiful is that it has every hue. So aren’t you glad you look like you? We’re different. We’re the same. We’re wonderful!”

Sweet Uga-babe(s),

We may not look like each other, but you are still 100% ours and our love for you is beyond the moon! We are family, our family, created through love. And in that, we are alike in so many ways. Our heart’s desire is that you will love yourself. Every part of you is just how God wanted you. And He makes no mistakes. You were so very thoughtfully and intentionally made, with great care, in your first momma’s womb. You were wonderfully created in His image, and you are beautiful. You are unique, one-of-a-kind. There is no one else exactly like you! Pretty amazing, huh?! May you find your value and worth in Christ alone. You were made for great things!
